high ping :4
I am currently running on a intel pentium d 820 (2x 2.8ghz), 2gig ram, geforce xfx 7900GS, windows vista ultimate. I am connected to 8mb adsl with virgin but when i play gw i am getting very high ping... I know my internet connection is good because i download things at high speeds, just am getting high ping. I get a minimum of around 200ms and usually have 400+ and sometimes like 1000 lol.
Is there any way i can lower my ping? i have tried optimizing my connection but it hasnt changed...
help would be greatly apreaciated

while i don't have a very high end pc, i used to play guild wars with decent ping and fps. however, for the past two weeks, it has been impossible to play. the lag is so terrible and i get disconnected most of the times. i thought it was just my connection but i tried playing other online games and surfing the net and everything was working fine, except for guildwars.
by the way, i am from the philippines and i play on the american realm. most of my friends here also experience the same problem.

You can use the -diag switch to get a diagnostic of your connection. The problem might be related to your ISP or some server between your ISP and the GW server. You can submit a support ticket to anet but if the problem is between you and anet's servers then there's nothing you or anet can do about it. Otherwise it would be a good idea to check your firewall, router and AV and anti-spyware programs since those can cause high ping due to your security settings. Norton's firewalls or spybots can enter in conflict with GW if not configured properly.
EDIT: Post your -diag results this will help people here diagnostic tour problem.

That -diag is pretty much usless due to the fact that when it hops into ANet's servers you get 100% packet loss because they block the trace. My connection is rock stable and I don't experience latency of more than 100ms in any other game at all, yet in Guild Wars the latency is ridiculous.
I've been in contact with GW support for weeks now and they blatently refuse to admit there's a problem. Strange how it's only this one game that gets the problem, don't you think?

Welcome to my world. Our STUPID telephone company makes everyone in the country lag >< My lowest ping ever is 400ms...it's never been less than that. It's usually around 500. Great for playing an interrupter lol

Yeah i was thinking about how to resolve my problem, and i think i found a solution. Yesterday i was experiencing very high pings all threw the day and at night, so i did a fragmentation in cmd prompt and left it on for a few hours. Then today i have been getting super low ping like on vent 30 ping, when yesterday it was 300-1000, also in gw i am getting less than 200 ping and yesterday was ALOT more. Also try re installing your modem + update drivers it should do the job.

Still the same tonight, latency of >500ms and those ridiculous 50,000ms+ spikes too. Drivers are fully up to date, modem is fine, GW.dat is defragged to 1/1 !
Like I've always maintained, it's really bizarre how it's only Guild Wars that suffers from this problem. Each and every other game/application works just fine with a decent latency of <100ms depending on where the server is located.

Normal ping for me is 350ms to 450ms (fps 25 - 35). I am happy with those numbers. I regularly have spikes has high as 25,000ms. When that returns to 'normal', I am standing on a res shrine somewhere, or my teammates have handled the situation. If I am running and 'rubberband', my ping shows 1000+ms. I have dialup and refuse to start the game unless I have a 52kb connection.

We were experiencing some of this problem last night. My son and I had been playing very successfully in mid-afternoon (-5 GMT) for about an hour when the lag spikes started. At first it was very minor and mostly just annoying but when we finally got a decent PuG together for SF questing (took forever!), the lag spikes became deadly - for us.
A little bit later, after we'd given up on FS, we were just out and about in Snake Dance when we would literally lag so badly that when it let loose, the battle would either be over (that we had never fought in, mind you) or we'd be dead. There'd be a sudden screen full of red damage stats. Luckily, neither character was trying to maintain a Survivor title.
Oh, and on the ocassions when a party member "lost communication with the server", they were unable to return to the party either because "GW cannot find the mission you were in" or they Err'd out and were totally kicked when they tried to re-enter the mission. This happened several times to several people including myself.
We're on high-speed broadband and GW is the ONLY game that has this problem - and he especially plays quite a few different online games. We play on American servers; the problem has always been there to some degree after Factions was added, especially, but lately it has been impossible to play around.
